ICE HOUSES FOR RENT
« on: Jan 02, 2008, 08:45 PM »
Does anyone know of anyone who rents icehouses on Mille lacs, Rainy , Cass, or any other decent lakes for a reasonable price? I am considering a trip up north if I can make ends meet. Waiting for good safe ice around the region is taking TOOOOO LONG. Thinking of Michigan, Wisconsin, or Minnesota area. I know a group of guys that go up to Lake Of The Woods the second week in February, but I dont want to drive that far or wait that long. With all you fishermen who look at this site there should be some good suggestions. I would like to target walleye, perch, crappie, and bluegills. Thank you for all the input. signed:  DESPERATE.

Try posting this question on the forums for the states where you are looking to go.  The locals there will have more info than us in Indiana.  I bet you will get alot of responses and possibly offers to fish with people in their ice houses for free...

ABISHOP....I am in the same boat. I cant stand waitin for good ice around here. I go to minnesota every year to fish with my pard up there. As a matter of fact I am leaving for Minnesota in the morning on a 11am flight to do just that. We like to go to leech lake (3.5 hr drive) from his house. And we stay at a friends, (steamboat bay resort) who takes care of us. TONS of perch and some nice eyes mixed in. We also hit mille lacs sometimes which was our intent for this weekend. I have an entire favorites folder for reports and resorts on millelacs, and some links. The bite has been slow on mille lacs lately because of the millions of perch the eyes have to eat.  I have fished millelacs MANY times, some of the resorts to check are macs twin bay, agate bay, hunters point, fishers, barnacle bay, garrison sports, twin pines, terrys, rocky reef, lybacks, scenic bay, hunter winfields. Among many other resorts around the lake. I have the links to almost all these resorts and veiw the forums or reports daily, especially the past week! Nittis Hunters point resort carrys a link on their forum for reports from MOST ALL the resorts, whcih I monitor closely before I head up. As a matter of fact it has been updated today.  Here is the link to the resort reports. There is also resort banners on the left for checkin on resorts. Hope this helps, its a good fishing report site. I,ll be off for minne tomorrow and will report when I return. Heres the link---- http://www.hunterspointresort.com/Millelacsresortreports.html

I have gone to Rocky Reef Resort for the past 8 years and really have enjoyed my stay.  Mainly perch and eyes.  John (the owner) is getting some new lightweight sleeper houses and is really excited about them.  Very friendly and they will get you on fish.  Give them a try!

One other note, the report site also carries the phone numbers for the resorts reporting. On my hot spot map, I have GPS,D the resorts on the map just so I can find them if needed. The link is a great  link if yer headed to mille lacs. I also have other lakes forums and reports if needed.  8)

abishop - If you're going to Mille during the week try Garrison's Sports. It's on the North side. They don't advertise much but don't have too. They put you on fish and sleeper are 1/2 price during the week. We went to Twin Pines and never had good luck. Their best attribute is the bar / restaraunt. Some locals told us about Garrison's.  try this site too http://www.fishingminnesota.com/forum/ubbthreads.php

On another note I am planning a trip to Little Bay De Noc looking at 1-9 > 1-12 or 13 depending on conditions. Mich UP on Wisconsin side. Big Eye lake.  We've got 2 of my buddies and a maybe penciled in. You're welcome to join if you can make it. That goes for you too Derslayer. More people more fun and more fish.

Ewwwww, that sounds VERY tempting. I,m all for traveling somewhere to fish/hunt/golf. I,ve fished the bay de noc area ONE time and that was for an MWC eye tournament. And it was on soft water. Really did enjoy it tho, HUGE expanse. We stayed up in Gladstone for the tournament. Love to try LBDN on the ice. I,m leaving for minnesota 2maro at 11am and return flight is tuesday at 11am, so I wouldnt have time to prep  :'( Appreciate the offer tho, and if I had a day inbetween, I,D GO. Keep me in mind if you do another trip, my problem is usually finding someone to do it with me. I,m always raring for a trip. Have a good trip, tight lines, and look forward to the report.....Andy

I took a dozen guys up to Mille Lacs last Feb. I organized the trip with the sleeper Shanties. We're looking to do it again this Feb. The place we used was Eddy's Resort.

http://www.eddysresort.com/

They had houses on the flats. They also have pro guides that locate their houses. You can also get accurate weekly fishing reports at the following links:

http://www.johnsonsportside.com/fishrept/report.htm  and    http://www.lundeens.com/hot.html

Hope this info helps.

If you make it to Mille Lacs
Here are some pics from our January 2007 Mille Lacs trip

Northern were caught in 8 FOW on a rock reef called Garrison's reef surrounded by 26 FOW

It is usually good for walleye too but that year we had to go out to 25 - 30 FOW on the mud for eyes.

Not much guessing involved they told us what we needed to know at the resort. The bait shops were kind of tight lipped. The main question on that lake is what depth is best from there you can almost pick your own productive spot from there
