Heater Setup
« on: Jan 03, 2008, 07:19 PM »
Hey-

This is my first year ice fishing. I just bought a FT Yukon, and i am using a 20# tank and a sunflower heater. I am using them cause after buying the house i didnt wanna buy a heater when u had stuff at home. I will use this set up this year yet but prolly not next. It seams to take up a lot of room, and i am worried about someone lettign the fabric against the heater.

So for next year i was thinking
- Sunflower heater, with 20#
- Mr. Buddy Portable, with 1# tanks

What do people think of the Mr. Buddy Portable? Give of enough heat? About how long does a 1# tank last?

Thanks

with the buddy and mr.buddy ( i believe ) you can buy an adapter hose to fit the larger propane tanks

I own a yukon also and use the Mr.buddy.Mine has been going strong for 3 years now,no complaints.one thing though,if you get the hose adapter make sure to pick up a filter so you don't ruin your heater.

You can in fact get an adaptor hose and use a larger cylinder. You can also by a filling adaptor from Cabelas to refill the 1# cylinders.

I have an 11# tank, a 5' hose and a MR Heater/Cooker.  Kept me warm in -20 last year and you I flip it on its back and cook my ham and cheese sandwiches.  With the 5' hose, you can set the tank outside.  It also works with a 1# tank, but I don't think that it puts out as much heat.

Yea i guess going with the house in an option. But i will always pull sled by hand so i wanna keep it as light as possible. So I think i would jsut use the 1# tanks. So about how long do they usually last? Any one got any reviews on the portalble buddy?

I have the buddy heater and have not had a problem keeping the Yukon warm even on cold days.  As a guesstimate I would say it will heat on low for about 6 hrs.  Of course on high its about half as long, and you will use high on the colder windy days.

Why not look into the 5 or 11lb tank and hook the buddy heater up to that.  I myself have a frabill venture w/buddy heatter and I bought the hose and filter for mine.  Right now I drag a 20lb tank cause that is all I hve but am looking into getting a 11lb tank when I find one around here to buy.  Otherwise going to have to goto Chicago and check at the cabelas and bass pro for one.  This settup  is not terrible w/20lb tank but I also dont walk miles dragging gear.

I also use a sunflower with an 11# tank. The 11# takes up considerably less room and has a wide flat bottom that seems to be less tipsy. I have a dynaglo heater which is a spin-off of a Mr. Buddy and I found it to be lacking in colder weather due to the small tank freezing. I also have the adapter hose for the 11# tank to plug the dynaglo into but I found that to be too much hassle. The sunflower heater with the 11# tank is a stand-alone unit worked best for me. This combination typically puts out way more heat than I need and if it is too warm for this I don't take a heater.
