First Ice: How thick before you venture out

I need at least 4-6 inches to go out...I prefer to not have the flexing under my feet when i walk around.

I need to say 4".  But I would bring my son until at least 6" just to be on the safe side.

I don't need much ice to feel safe , but I have been called "crazy" (beside other things) a couple of times

I was right there with Bucketmouth last year. And this year it was on 2" of solid ice under 1.5" of slushy ice.!!!

I walk on with rope and floater suit, I have my long handled axe and if one good whack doesn't go thru I carry on.

I will go on 4-5"...But I'm a big chicken...Always hate when a group of folks come up to see what you caught. Not unsociable...just a wuss . Now give me a foot or more, I'm a happy camper. I just cant ever wait that long to get out. I wonder if I will always be paranoid or if it gets less over time. (kinda new at this). Oh well...be safe all and I will see ya out there........Just not right away
