Vexilar used alongside higher power units....
« on: Nov 28, 2007, 01:30 PM »
I currently have an FL-18 and would like to look at getting another depthfinder for the little lady as she keeps stealing mine!  I've thought about trying another brand but I'm worried about interference as we generally fish fairly close together. Anyone have experiences running a Marcum or something that runs on a higher power level than the Vex with its low power and sensitive reciever set up.  Thanks in advance.

I saw a guy that fished a LX-5 and FL-20 with both transducers in the same hole with no interference problems. I have personally fished with a FL-18 and LX-5 and a FL-8 all running in close proximity and the FL-18 had problems.  The FL-18 and LX-5 fished fine together until we put in the FL-8.

I think you should  buy yourself a LX-5 and let the lady use the fl-18 I think you would be much happier with the Marcum .

lol. My lx-3 clears out anyone with fl8's within 10 ft., I don't know how the fl18 is near it.
The fishing is always great, the catching however, always isn't

Only unit I've seen with my own eyes have prolems being too close is my old x67 fishing next to my buddy's FL-18.  Now with my FL-20 next to his 18, no problems @ all!  Now, I don't know about the LX-5's.  Never been too close to one w/ my 20.
