Hey guys!
I just wanted to spread a little hope for the up-coming ice fishing season. I recently started a new job on Alaska's north slope (Prudhoe Bay) on the coast of the Arctic Ocean. The ice has started to form on the ponds and lakes in the area along with a few flurries of snow and heavy frost. That means that winter is working it's way south once again. I live about 700 miles south of here (Palmer, Alaska) and there will not be fishable ice for about two more months. I've talked to a number of other guys that I work with and they fish during the summer months up here but no ice fishing. The reason? Polar bears, wind, polar bears, extremely cold weather, polar bears, very thick ice, polar bears, it's always dark, polar bears, and of course, polar bears. I'll keep you posted and try to post some pics when I get home. I've seen the future... and it looks cold
