Vexilar transducer float?
« on: Jan 09, 2004, 07:24 AM »
Just wondering who uses the transducer float that comes with the new vexilar.  Does this get in the way when fishing?  Is it better to use the eyelet to suspend the transducer?

Thanks,

I use mine in a 10 and 8 inch hole with no problems. I'd image a smaller hole may present some issues.

no matter how big of hole you fish with you are almost gauranteed to have a few fish wrap around you ducer. i use the arm instead of the float, and it seems like i have less problems. when i jig for crappies and walleyes with trebel hooks on i set the hook and pull the ducer. i have lost many fish because of the float and prefer to use the arm because it takes up less space in the hole. one drawback to use the arm is your sonar may have a little more interference.

I use the Ice-Ducer float. The ease of use out weighs the few fish I have tangle up.

If you are after panfish you can ususally work them up quick enough that you do not have an issue.

If you are after bigger game you can simply lift the unit and set it aside before it gets wrapped up. That's what we do when chasing lake trout. If you have a smaller fish on or a fish that isn't putting up too great of a fight you can reach down and move it. Usually someone in our crew will come to  aid you if you give a yell and grab it for you.

Another solution to the problem is to have a fishfinder hole, and a fishin' hole in the ice.  Cut another hole either right next to the hole you're fishing through, or between you and your buddy.  Then you can't get the line tangled around the 'ducer.

Im surprised anyone uses the arm. My buddy who uses the arm doesnt like it and has lots of fish tangle in his transducer. His didnt come with float.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.
