Salted smelt
« on: Mar 04, 2007, 08:52 PM »
I have about 100 small individually frozen smelt.  I'm thinking of making some salted smelt when I catch more.  However, I have a couple of questions.

Are salted smelt better than non-salted smelt?

Can someone explain how to make salted baitfish?

I would suggest against the salt !
The salt will draw out the oils that are one of the biggest reasons they make great bait ! I freeze mine < about a dozen each bag > in a freezer bag with just enough water to cover them , this prevents freezer burn and still allows the oils to stay in the bait .
This is what i have found to work best for me .
