What's the best all around size and color of jigs for first ice gills? thanks, captin

I have good luck with the color yellow. And I like to downsize the hook, say about a size twelve on most jigs. I have a few 'Bad Dog' treble hook jigs from years ago that get me about a 90% hooking ratio on gills.

WOW!! I better not tell my Grandson about this good news.....he has 8 ice rods all ready to go. I only got 3. To change lure...all he has to do is just grab tne next ice rod!!!

Cap'n, good advice above. But also, do a search on bluegills and you'll get tons of prior advice, all good. Also, there is a tips section/forum on this site too...excellent stuff. Check out the sections for bluegills, jigging, etc.

My advice, light line 1 to 4 pound test, downsize when they're finicky, bigger baits when they're aggressive. Maggots and waxworms...but small plastics work well too (one inch or less).
