Jigging Rods
« on: Feb 12, 2007, 03:46 PM »
If you could only take two jigging rods on the ice for perch and pan fish . What two rods would they be ( brand , lenght , action ultra light , light, medium etc). And why? Thanks

Well I am not saying that they are the best but this is what I take out with me everytime I go out.  I got a St. Croix ML Legend ice rod and the other is a Berkely UL lightning rod.  I believe that they both are 24" long and I have them both rigged up with Pflueger UL reels.  I got 3lb Cajun line on the Berkely rod and I have 4lb on the ML rod.  Like I said they may not be the best but they work good for me!! ;D

I take two. HT iceman ultralite 24 inch, very wimpy good sensitivity for tiny jigs. Uglystick pro ice, lite, 26 inch. Great general purpose rod. Both have even handled salmon and walleye up to 7 lbs. Also have a pair of Okuma lite 10 reels. Work flawless, come with spare spool. All moderate price. Lot of use. Good stuff.

The Marmish rod, about 9 inches and it's ultra sensitive. When the bite is tough these small rods can create a sweet action on the jig and the strike indicator will show the fish taking the jig ...  inhaling or on the rise.
The HT Ice Blues rod, 24" light action. This rod has a very sensitive tip allowing you to see the fish taking the jig and still has some backbone if you get into some larger fish.

i like the 30 inch panfish popper from frabill. i really like the spring bobber on the end.it detects the lightest of strikes from panfish. all three of mine are riged with bekley ice line in 2# and 4# test line. and i use gander mountain guide series reels.
i love the gander mountain discount.

For perch  and panfish i like the 23" ultra-light genz stik with 3 lb. micro ice and a diawa regal xi reel. very sweet set up.
There is only one theory about angling in which I have perfect confidence, and this is that the two words, least appropriate to any statement, about it, are the words "always" and "never."
