marcum 825c reviews
« on: Feb 16, 2008, 08:36 AM »
anxiously awaiting feedback on this camera.
hopefully all the ecstatic or disappointed users will praise or vent here after this weekend.
really looks like a great camera, but of course hesitant with laying out that $ with it being so new, and what might be just around the corner. i hate kicking myself in the butt for being too anxious.
 thanks, jignut

I contacted Marcum several times before and during the season trying to get a "loaner" to do a review. I thought an honest review would help our members in making an informed decision. I never recieved a reply either way.

Hi Gang!
I would like to know what kind of camera hookups are avaliable for camcording  digital recording on the 820.  The other marcum cams hav rca jacks for outbound.  How much better is the color vs black and white in the winter.  How do those above the cam headlights work better or??  I am really interested in the 820c myself just wish it had all the bells and whistles of the vs-560.  would be nice to know direction tep and depth too plus be in color.  Marcum tech are you listening Hmmm???

Does anyone have a review of this camera yet?  Or is no one buying them?

Here's a link to the video section where Scott(Iceshanty) used his 825C when catching whitefish-->  http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=79833.0

By the way, He loves his.

I watched that already.  Yeah, it was a neat video.  But I was more concerned with 2 things.

1. Clarity in stained water (most of the water here is dark where I fish)  This is the most important concern I have.

2.  Directional turning.  Is the video compass accessory worth buying, or am I better off turning the cable by hand.

There's another thread on this child board that should answer your questions.

The "child boards" are sub forums of the Equipment Board.  You have the main board "Equipment", then child boards(sub boards) of "ice fishing with electronics" and "Ice Augers" under that.

Oh, well that is the first time I heard that term used.
Seems like a wierd description.

Anyway, the "child" boards will yield very little on that topic.

Au contraire, mon freir! If you look in this particular "child board" that you're now on (ie "Ice fishing with electronics") you will see a thread started by User "ryno" that has all of the answers that you're looking for...last I saw, it was within three posts of this thread.

I guess low light when out early before sun-up is it worth it and mirky water? My DT-60 Aqua View works really well. I can turn the lights on and pick the fish up cuz there eyeballs light up, but they are hesitant, so I turn it off & on periodically till sun comes up. But only downfall is screen size, kills my neck, so I been pondering to moving to a bigger screen unit.

in low light, mirky or stained water the visibility will be poor even with the lights on. outside visibility is not all that great either, best used in a shelter, way to much glare when its bright out.  but in clear water this camera is awsome. I don't use the color option I turn it way down because I heard u need sunlight to bring out the color otherwise I'd have to keep adjusting the screen option to keep a decent picture . better off buying the b/w version the 820.  its nice to have a camera in general to see what kind of fish is down there, say if u were targeting a certain species plus u get to see what the bottom looks like and if there's any structure. anyways comparing the 825c to no name crt cameras the marcum lcd is the the way to go, I used to have one and clarity and visibility sucked balls. I don't know about the other marcum models though.    overall I like the camera, even in stained - mirky water I can still see and make out what kind of fish is there. if I had to do it again i'd go with the black and white 820.
