Where are all the walleyes at this time of year?
« on: Feb 08, 2007, 11:32 PM »
I know that the ice fishing season has basically just started but after fishing pymie for the last 2 days. I couldn't find not even one did see one on the camera but that was it. Most of the spots that I fished were from 16 to 12 ft. but all I caught were perch. I believe that I should of fished the deeper water at the jamestown area. A fished mannings fishing the gully along the old roadbed. Then today I fished snodgrass using my gps and fishing the inside turns of the shelf leading to the channel. And again only perch, maybe I should have hit the channel all day. Or maybe hit the stump flat out in front of orchid, its just a long hike to them in the wind and cold. what do you think?

The last 3 years I've decided to stop fishing for the eyes and target the pan fish at pymie.  I'm having a blast.

Those mega schools of eyes are no longer there, so your essentially your targeting individual or small groups of fish which makes it all that much harder.  I've fished deep, shallow, humps, bars and everything else that I can think of and still the eyes are few and far between.  Even when I'm pan fishing I'm not catching any small dink eyes and those were always in the lake.

I've given up chasing eyes and I'm after the under utilized pan fish in the lake.  I would rather catch 20-30 fish a trip than sit on a bucket and get skunked for days on end.

Yesterday I brought home 12 crappies, 3 perch, and 7 gills in 3 hours of fishing.
