Swain Swamp

Has anyone ever fished here. I'v driven by it a thousand times and wondered whats in there. Saw some young'ns fishing from shore a few years ago. Just wondering if it is fishable, what species and if its worth the trip to fish it!

Ice Ape,

I asked the same question last year and got no reply.  I have to agree that it always looks awful tempting.  I even made a few inquires about fishing there.  It is all privately owned by just one person.  A guy that I work with off and on says that the person that owns it doesn't mind people fishing it as long as they ask.  It's supposed to be full of Crappies, and only has a few deep spots that tend to hold them in the cold weather.  A couple of us were even thinking about giving it a try this past December, thinking that it would freeze up before any of the lakes, but it didn't cover up until about the same time as Loon this year so we kinda forgot about it.

I'd be interested in giving it a go sometime.

Well Kirk,
      Sounds like we gots to give it a try some time. I'll check around for accesss. Someone was telling me that you can access it at the dyke. And one side of the dyke is shallow..like at the most 3 feet. and the other side is up to 10 feet. I have to think, if there is anykind of holes...that there gonna be stacked in there.PM me sometime and we'll try to get'r done. what we got to lose?

      I've fished it from a boat.   The water flowing through the pipe under the rd[dyke] doesn't freeze very thick even when its real cold and thats where the deep hole is.      Some of the rest gets solid , I just get nervouse about all the weeds under the ice making thin spots.        Swain swamp has fair gills and some keeper crappie.
