Perch and Walleye
« on: Jan 19, 2008, 10:58 PM »
Is there a relationship to eyes and perch. I fished a point that was 15fow on the top and was catching alot of perch . this point dropped off to around 20fow and so I was wondering if this might be a good place to try for eyes. If it would be, would it be better at night or dusk or when?

I usually fish a drop off that fluctuates more like 20-30 feet for my walleyes.

I usually fish a certain lake during the day around 24 fow for perch and eyes then later in the afternoon I start moving shallower up on the flat.  At dark and after I'm usually in 5 to 6 fow for eyes.................. ...lots and lots of them crusing the shallows after dark..........

Wayyyy to many people think they have to fish deep for eyes..........wrong... ..

Nothing like catching a 5 or 6 pounder in 5 fow...........better hang on.....
Ride a grizzly or walk......

Well I have another question now. While perch fishing yesterday we did catch 3 eye's the biggest being 12". Do eye's travel in "schools" or are they mostly solitary and since these were small, does that mean there could have been larger fish with these or where might the larger eye's have been?

Also since we caught these out of our hot perch holes, has anyone setup for eye's where they were fishing for perch and if you have do you need to be set up away from your perch lines so you don't get all tangled up if the eye were to run?

I did set up a slammer that I have built with a jigging perch rapala but I didn't have any good minnows with me only year old frozen so I used a night crawler which I think the perch stole and then I tried meal worms which nothing touched. I set the jig not near the bottom like I was fishing for the perch but thinking about it should I have been near the bottom? We were in 20fow.
