Waubay Fisher - MIA?
« on: Jan 24, 2007, 06:09 PM »
Last year, WF was on here weekly with a report and even a few pictures to share once in a while.  Did you get a more demanding job or a wife?   I know those are the two things that have prevented me from doing more icefishing this year.   ;)  I have to live my fishing life vicariously through internet webboards, and even that isn't working out since I'm not getting my weekly Waubay report.   ;)

At any rate, the secondhand report I am getting is that Waubay is its typical self - move around and find the perch, early morning and later day bite; walleyes biting best through the night.  I haven't even been on it yet this year.  I have had decent luck on some of the area sloughs, but those bites seem to come and go.  Forecast for Saturday looks crappy, with snow and wind, but there is no football on Sunday and the weather looks marginally better than Saturday so I am going to attempt to spend the afternoon in my Clam somewhere on the north end of Waubay.

WF will be there too and hopefully I will too. The young man has joined the work force and has a lot less time to spend on IS. I told him that it should get better in about 40 years.  :woot: >:D ;)2
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Isn't that the truth.  I love my job, but there are some days when people around here have to look at me and read the look on my face that says "I would really rather be ice fishing."

I know the look.  I am going to try to pull the sneak today to head out.  The weather is too nice to work a full day.

I'm still around husker ;).  I just haven't had much time to spend on the PC and to post on IS.  I have a few times this year, but you're right, my weekly updates has gone downhill...  Ice Dawg hit the nail on the head with his comments.  I keep pretty busy with work, and all other things going on.

I am going to be up there this weekend though.  I'm hoping to get into a few fish, it'd be nice.  I'd like to check out Pickerel, Swim, Red Iron, and Six Mile yet this year too if I can do so.  Have you ever fished any of those, in particular Red Iron or Six Mile (on the ice)?

Actually, I haven't fished either of those, through the ice or otherwise.  Have you heard good things?  You have to understand, those are quite a ways from Aberdeen.  I have to pass quite a few good lakes to get to those, so I usually fish a little closer.

I guess Waubay was pretty good last weekend.  Hopefully the weather won't be too horrible, although I am hearing of high wind for tomorrow.

Hey Husker, sorry this took so long to get back to ya.  I have never fished either of them on the ice, nor Six Mile on open water.  I have fished Red Iron openwater though and caught several nice eyes and some pretty nice northern.  My dad and brother both caught a limit of nice eyes this past summer during that real hot spell when it was like 100 degrees out.  They said it was hot, but worth it ;).  The other two times I fished it I could barely get a few northern to bite.  I know there are a lot of real small perch and pannies in that lake, so I have to imagine the fish have plenty of bait-food.  Six Mile I've heard is pretty good for northern.  I've always wanted to fish northern through the ice but never had the opportunity to do so.  Maybe this year will be the ticket.  On the other hand, I'm pretty pumped about getting on Enemy or Pickerel too, so I guess I have my hands full  ::).

BTW - Waubay this past weekend was not a lot of fun w/ all that wind.  I think around 12-1'ish or so I could actually make out a little shoreline on the NE end of the lake.
