Fish Measuring Box ex-Lt
« on: Jan 22, 2007, 05:02 PM »
Here is a picture of a fish measuring box that ex-LT sent me. Looks pretty simple to make and handy. maybe ex-Lt can add some info about it.

...nothin' to it Big Ice, thanks for posting it, just a few pieces of scarp 1x4 lumber and an old ruler glued securely in place...I find it keeps the G&F Q of whether a fish-is-over-twenty  ???  to a minimum. Nose against one end tail pinched out to the other.  ;D

Everything I have caught this season so far would rattle around inside that box! I was thinking about making one but it would be about half that size. Actually thinking about going skiing again I really like to ski and don't half to beat anybody down the hill. Probably break my leg!
The guy that definitely needs a bigger box is Mooster did you see the size of those eyes and bo's he has caught awesome fish!
This last fishing derby at KH in two days I could not catch an eye bigger than 18 1/2"!!
Losing the touch men! losing it!

I built it out of self defense, lots of lakes over in Sublette cty where the laker=limit is 6 fish, one over twenty and Burnt Lake for instance, the macs average 19 1/2-21 inches. Say you have a fish that's borderline and  you've already got your over-twenty-inch fish, there's no room for eerror with a warden...especially since you've got to pinch the tail out. I just found it an extremely difficult task to accurately measure a flopping fish with a steel tape, while holding the head and tail stationary. I only built what I had seen the G&F creel-counters
use on Soda/Burnt Lakes, so I don't take any credit for originality.  ;D

Feeling's mutual, Mooter, that's release is the biggest part of it, but I gotta tell you, I'm too sore inside to pick up that big-a** Jiffy, let alone crank it and hang on when it bites into the ice...might end up with me out there just cheering you guys on  :pinch:

The measuring boards I have seen have the ruler in the center of the bottom. Probably wouldn't make any difference, especially since all you want to measure is the length to the end of a pinched fin.
