this is not  just any Mic its like this if u  stand on the end of the  dock it looks as if it were 1foot of water here ,nope u jumping and and its chest deep    MUCK that just floats all over and u cant see any thing in the water   and it stinks like hell.  but there are plenty of  pike, sunnies and big bass
in the spring this pond is crazy!

does anyone think that a crib would work, will it bury under the muck or will fish and critters keep it clean?

Never heard of a fish crib, but I think I get the idea.

But think about it there has to be some open water.......at some depths or spots. Or the fish couldn't live there.........most places might just have the veggies on top.
Don't have no experience with this, but that's my idea ???
Punch holes....and see what you find!

 Good Luck

he isn't complaining, he wants to know if a fish crib will improve his catch. ::)

I think in a structureless body of water a crib can be magic! If the fish have an abundance of cover though, the benefit can be marginal. Artificial cover placed in the right spot will draw fish, period. It is up to you to see how many fish it can draw. If you are concerned about it sinking in the mud, try putting "snowshoes" on it to keep it on top of the mud. Check your local regulations about putting "stuff" in the water before you do it. It is an illegal activity in many areas.

Any type of crap you can put in the water to make artificial structure. Some people use Christmas trees, bed springs, pallats, cars, rock piles, or even complex homemade structure. The principal is to give the fish the perfect hideout from everything, except you. ;D

Like I said, the advantage is lakes with little cover. I think the benefits would be marginal, but you never know till you try. Sometimes the fish just like something different. I fish a weed choked lake with a sunken log sled in it, the spot is dynamite! the fish have no lack of cover but they love that log sled. I guess it is like a jungle gym for them. ;D

Is this a totally isolated pond with no inlets and outlets ? A pond that has no influx of other waters is easier to control. There is organic and chemical sludge control available on the web, but most times a permit is required.

Your life expectancy on your pond is limited. The ongong uncontrolled weed growth is lactually filling the pond slowly, hence the foul smell from the muck. The dead vegitation attributes to that.

Unless you own the property, or have permission from the landowner to help this pond along, then you legally cannot do anything else.

More information, please.

From what I am reading, I would leave well enough alone in this situation. The weeds, the muck, the spring plays vital roles in the fish population you have in there. Probably the best advice I could give you is to NOT stock this pond with fish, as its probably illegal in your state, and theres a good balance going on now.

If this was a non-flowing pond, totally isolated, then things would be different.
