question about charging batteries
« on: Dec 29, 2006, 09:59 PM »
I just bought a cabelas/marcum vxr, but I bought it at the bargian cave and it didn't come with a battery charger. Anyway I won't be able to go back to cabelas soon so I was wondering if I can use a regular 12 volt charger on the 2 amp setting on that little battery? If not, what type of charger do I need?

Do you have a Gander Mountain near by?  I just bought a 7amp battery with charger included for $10.00.  They had a pallet of them.  It is the same brand that came with my Marcum and it can be nice to have the backup battery.

I have a interstate battery tender charger it works great its not a fast charger 750 milliamps there is a red light to start charging and green when done.nice thing about it is when the green light is on it is in float mode it will not hurt your battery you can leave it hooked up it will not hurt it.if you leave it hooked up and your battery starts to lose charge it kicks back on red and re charges if it stayes red for 24 hrs your battery is junk.

Stick with a smaller charger as it is always better to charge slower than cooking your battery. I do not remember the milliamp charge rate but I would follow oleycow and do the Gander thing. You can not go wrong and you have a spare. Radio Shack and Batteries Plus also have the small plug in style chargers.
