South Manistique Lake
« on: Jan 25, 2007, 07:33 AM »
Fished 19-20 Jan 07, ice is pretty good in fishing areas, snowmobiles on the lake. caught eyes on 19th, caught an eye on 20th, perch too small, went with son-n-law who is regular on lake.  Contact JR's sport shop in Curtis for daily report.

Thanks for the report. I was over on the south lake the same days. Friday night we didn't get anything in front of curtis. Saturday we moved to wolf bay and caught a few pike and bass. Then we moved to deeper water towards dark and got a coupl bass and only one walleye. Couple guys we talked to by the boat launch didn't have anything. This saturday I will probably be on the big lake

How was the fishing last weekend.  Funny how the fish are.  I was looking for good outing with first ice but they reacted like mid winter.  Maybe the solunar tables has more to do with it than we think.

We ended up fishing the south lake where wolfe bay comes into the main lake. We got a few pike, some really small perch and lost quite a few walleye at or near the hole. In the late morning we had some nice walleye come in but were kinda skiddish. My brother had one on for a sec but dropped it that was in about 7 ft of water. The pike and the rest of the walleye we hooked came in the afternoon in 12-15 ft.

We didn't do good at all. We started out fishing close to the moon islands in a little deeper water and only saw one nice perch. Then we moved to the big group of shantys east of sand island in shallower water and didn't see anything. Towards evening we packed up and went to the main channel in front of munuscong in about 10 fow and only saw a few small perch. All the people we talked were having the same kind of luck.

I will contact my son-in-law in Newberry, he fishes it a lot and works for the DNR out of Newberry, counting fish believe it or not.  Will try to get report tomarrow.

Trapperman I was up there this past weekend fishing the south lake and the fishing was very slow. We caught 2 walleyes all weekend and 1 was a keeper, couple small pike on tipups and a few dink perch...that was it... :-\

Friday morning my brother and I fished the big lake for a couple hours in the morning and got one pike. Then we moved to the south lake in the afternoon and got 6 pike with only one keeper and a nice walleye. Saturday we fished the same spot with my other brother and dad and ended up getting 5 keeper pike and 3 walleyes. We had a lot of flags but they either would steal the minnow or just run a few feet and drop it. We didn't fish sunday because my dad and brother wanted to get home before it started snowing but overall it was a real nice weekend to be out.

Those short or shy bites are killers.  Ever use stingers?  Works for perch too.  At least you got keepers.

No i've never used stingers on tip ups, just on my jigging rod. I want to make some quick strikes just never have got around to it.
