Nasty Weather
« on: Dec 31, 2006, 12:38 PM »
How many had their ice fishing plans halted by the weather this weekend?? My son and I were towing my wheeled ice house to Waubay Lake early Saturday morning and my pickup started spinning out at 40 mph. After about 40 miles of putting up with that and thinking about how the driving conditions would be in the evening, I locked it in 4 wheel drive and went back home. How did the rest of you do??
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

We had good weather in the Hills all weekend. Only got to fish on Saturday. Had plans for last night and to hung over this morning to go.

Dawg - I had planned to drive my wife to the wrestling meet in Webster and sneak up to Waubay while she was there for the afternoon.  Those plans were cancelled almost as quickly as they were made.

Aberdeen only got 4.5 inches - does anyone know how much they got over east (Webster, Britton areas)?

Waubay Fisher was on the lake that day, but I haven't heard from him yet. They usually get more than we do though.

Too bad ya didn't make it on Saturday Dawg - talk about getting SKUNKED, you didn't miss anything ;D.  But, it was fun nonetheless, even amongst the nonstop rain and sleet.  I'm not sure how much rain the Webster/Britton areas received, but it rained all day long and even into part of the evening.  By 6:30pm there was some snow which had quit by 9:30 or so when we came off the lake.  I wasn't too happy about the rain, or should I say my back wasn't, when I slipped and went feet first into the air, well after I'd been off the lake. >:(.  If I'd have to guess I'd say they'd had to have had at least 4" for sure.

Had a great day fishing the Hills new years eve...dunno how the ice is going to be with all this warm weather though...high today was 52 and its not getting below freezing tonight...supposed to be the same Wed and Thurs.  No freezing temps until the weekend.

I was waiting for power lines to start dropping like last year. It's a good thing that the temperature didn't get just right to make ice on the lines. I remember heading to Webster to fish and the old poles were laying all over after being replaced.

How much ice do you have on the lakes in the hills? We have about 14" in the NE part of the state.

Yep, I would agree.  Downed power lines = bad news.

Big E - don't worry too long about the ice not holding out.  We're in for some good cold weather starting Wednesday of next week.  Over night temps in the low teens to single digits.  BRRRRRRRR!  ;D

Despite Captain Morgan and -20 degree lows the night before, I still went out on Sunday to a small lake in northern MN with a friend's dad and caught a limit of crappies.  Most ridiculously easy fishing I have EVER done.
Born to fish, forced to go to work and think about fishing and talk about fishing with coworkers.

You are bolder than I am.  I was primed to go perch hunting on Monday morning, but the weather channel scared me into staying at home.  Highs of -2 in NE SD on Monday.  If I had a hard shack, I would think about it, but my propane heater wouldn't keep up with -10 at 8 am.
