Mr. Heater
« on: Sep 23, 2006, 05:29 AM »
I just got my new Mr. Heater and it really puts out the heat. No more coldmans for me. The only thing that concerns me is the spark ignitor it has. It seems very similiar to the gas grill ignitors that go bad after about 10 uses. Have these held up well for you guys? also do you have any problems with a breeze blowing out the pilot?
Thanks guys, it wont be long now

Hi Jonsey
I had a  Mr. Heater for a year , never had any problems with the ignitor . But the slightest breeze blew it out .
There's a post on here where the guys were messing around with making a cover for it . It seemed to work for them . I ended up buying a dyna-glo sunflower heater , no problems with it , except for lugging around a propane tank but IMO it's well worth it . Here's the link to the posts I talked about earlier . http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=27056.0

I have had a Buddy heater for 2 season now absolutely love it. I just position it right so the wind doesnt affect it. and on those supper cold days makes sure you keep the next tank warm or it wont burn.

Mr Buddy heaters work good. I have a small sunflower heater also. They both have upsides and downsides. I use the sunflower only when its really cold and I need both heaters for old people in a large shack. The igniter has lasted 2 years in my buddy and still works now.  They do kinda blowout easy or if you bump them. The sunflower you never have to turn off, you can carry it from one spot to the next. Good Luck.

I haven't tried Mr. Heater but I like the ol' propane double mantle lantern in my shanty.  It puts out light and heat.  If I don't need the light I set it behind or hang it from above.  Although the older I get the more BTU's I may need ::).

I love my buddy heater, just work with it to find a good position to stop the wind from blowing it out. As for the igniter, just keep it clear of moisture and you should be fine. I got snow in mine last year and it took a while to get it back up and running

Hey, has anybody had any asphixiation issues with heaters. I have heard of a couple of sunflower heaters mentioned on this thread. Do you use them in the shack?

I got a Mr. Heater last year and the thing puts out some good heat but the pilot does blow out in the wind fairly easy. I saw a post last year by Mac I believe that showed a way to fabricate a little cover to block the wind.

Mine seems resistant to wind, as long as you face the heater away from it.

anyone ever get headaches from running the heater in the shack?  The Mr. Heater I have is supposed to have a safety shut off if co2 levels get too high.   I always open my vents when I'm in the shack partly because of cigarette smoke and partly the fumes from the heater.

I've had mine a couple years now and has been a complete disappointment.  Wind blew it out all the time and now it doesn't stay lit at all (gas kicks out).  I will be getting a procat soon with any luck.
