Breaking ice Blonde Mallard
« on: Dec 19, 2023, 06:42 AM »
So not really ice fishing but I had to break ice to get to my duck spot. At 4am, walking through knee high mud/leaves, there were plenty of turtles and tadpoles under the 1/2" layer of ice in the back cove. Tons of work and ripped waders later, the decoys were set and a 20 minute wait until legal. First bird in, this unicorn blonde mallard. A few more mallards later, a black duck, and woodduck, and lastly a banded drake mallard ended the day! A hell of a solo hunt. My question to you all, have any of you ever seen a blonde mallard in the wild? All my research shows extremely rare and a "auto must get mounted". So, she is going to the taxi this week. Thoughts?

Just add water.

That's a heck of a day you had. Never seen a blond mallard, yes it should be mounted. Just a guess, maybe it crossed with a domestic duck. None the less, congratulations on a great day!
