Do I dare??
« on: Jan 06, 2022, 09:56 AM »
Like all good Ice Shanty denizens, lately I have spent an inordinate amount of time looking at the weather forecasts.
Yesterday, as I walked past the basement door a question came to mind.  Do I dare go downstairs and bring my  ice
fishing bucket, rods and auger up and stage them in the mud room?  Is a 6 deg F forecast strong enough to ward off the jinx? notice
I didn't get crazy and put them directly in the back of the jeep. (Such an aggressive move might offend the "ice spirits"
and result in s string of 63 deg January days.)  For now all remains downstairs.  It does look like the guys up north may get a
shot sometime in the near future...

Fish on,

rivereddy

Not sure how far south you are, but there's just enough on some smaller ponds here today. I'm about even with US24 for latitude.

How much are you seeing? I am just 10 miles north of 24.

Bigger ponds broke up in the wind yesterday. I'm sitting on a bit over 3" on a small pond, but the other end of the pond has less than 2"

Thanks I'm hoping to get on a lake nearby this weekend. It is real shallow and freezes quick but it probably broke up yesterday. Incorporating all that cold air should speed up the process though.

Might happen!?
Lake George in Hobart was half frozen over yesterday
down town with wind howling. The south section by Wisconsin Street bridge was all locked up!

It will be a go on the resi's when IWalton drops the annual rock off Red Bridge. He factors in weight, height, speed with the gravitational pull. Mostly he watches if the rock goes thru.

I think it’s going to happen, might not last long so you better be ready! Another goofy year starting to take shape the way it looks. Be careful out there!

Go for it.  I'm losing belief in superstitions.  Last week I wore Notre Dame, Indiana and Purdue gear for games.  They all lost!!!

The weather's great, may as well. Won't catch any from home 😉

Looking like the skunko for me today...fish here are just dead negative. Seen a few swim under the hole, but haven't been able to get them to touch anything. Probably gonna pack it in around noon and try again tomorrow.

I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.
