Dog Saftey
« on: Jan 20, 2022, 08:45 AM »
Hi everyone. I was thinking of heading to Canyon Ferry this weekend and was hoping to better understand the ice conditions. I have a dog and I am nervous bringing him to a new stop as he likes to explore while I set up my shanty and I’d hate for him to fall through.. Is the ice at CF consistent (besides the pressure ridges of course)?

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

Get him a spud and teach him ice safety
More than 3 cars in my driveway when I get home ? Probably an intervention! I’m outta there!

X2. If you have a shelter, you’re presumably carrying ice anchors. Sink the first one out of your way for a hitching post.  Owners of free range pups aren’t popular figures on the ice.

The CF ice is generally and currently pretty good but the condition of pressure ridges can change throughout the day.
YOU are the only one who can decide if the ice is safe enough for you.

My dogs are my besties. With that said, they don't come on the ice with me. If i am fishing within 10 minutes of the truck, sometimes i will take him.He has a cozy spot in the rig with a dog bed and blanket. Every 2 hrs i will come back and take him on a nice walk. Or when i am done fishing , take him out on a fun adventure. But on the ice, for me personally, it just doesn't make sense. If you have the type of dog that will just chill on a pad near your tent. Cool. I don't mind a friendly dog saying hello , as long as they don't pee on your shack or steal your fish. Mean barking dogs, dogs that crap and owners don't pick it up is another thing. People look at dogs very differently, just something to consider...
