fish finder cables, removing excess
«

If I was to shorten the cables, power and transducer, how bad will it mess up my Striker 4?
Mainly concerned if it will affect how the transducer functions, or not at all, if I take at least half the cable out and splice it back together.
Just tired of having way too much cable length getting in the way.
Thanks for any advice.

I do not think that is a good idea at all.the ducer wires are tiny and frail.

NOOOOOO. Zip Ties or another method to contol your wires ..I assume you are using an iceducer ..not much cable to deal with..if not then its more of a cumbersome task ..but do not cut .

Power cable you can cut as short as you want.
Ducer cable is hit and miss, someone made the cable in the factory so its definitely possible to cut the end off and shorten the cable. You are talking about micro tiny wires and definitely soldering, so unless this is a free or easily replaced ducer i wouldnt mess with it. If you are skilled in soldering and working with tiny wires, dont see why you would have an issue. Its just wires wrapped in a ground shield.

I was once told that the length of the transducer cable is taken into consideration with the unit to work at its best (time for a signal to travel the length of the cable). This was a long time ago and it may not be true, but I won't shorten one... As said, power is no problem. Check to see what Airmar says, they make most transducers...

Cutting a wrapped, shielded 'ducer cable is pure insanity IMO.

Personally, I would NOT cut them. Loop them back and forth to shorten to your desired length and then slide a piece of nylon expandable wire loom over them to keep them tidy.

Thanks everyone. I have the basic striker 4 that I am setting up in a cooler as a shuttle. No cord keepers. I have 7 ft ducer cord, which I understand is normal, 6 ft power cord. 2 to 3 ft of each one is about all I need. I think I have figured how to put cord keepers in the cooler, just another trip to the hardware store. Thanks again. Not going to cut anything.

Wind them around a bigger empty line spool. Works well.
