Ice Fishing Trips
« on: Dec 08, 2021, 05:55 PM »
Just sitting here dreaming about Shotgun deer season this next week and Ice fishing after that. I’m curious though, when everyone goes on trips do you usually have one guy who plans the trip and handles reservations, money food, etc…? I am kind of getting tired of being the organizer and the money man. Past couple years the same guy claims he pays me twice and this year seems to think he doesn’t owe me anything. Of course he is the only guy who doesn’t use Venmo so I can’t trace it back, handing someone money when you can barely stand is never a good idea. How does everyone else handle it. I don’t think I’m going to organize it next year, most of them are their to drink and not fish which drives me nuts. It’s like some of them don’t get how much actually goes into a trip like that, especially when all they have to do is show up and fish….. rant over…..

Dam, I'd figure all the expenses out beforehand and make them pay up front, no pay=no invite, someone like that I'd not invite. Or you could split up expenses, one pay for food, one pay for rooms, not fair, but could help out someone who paid a bit more.

If I don't organize the trips, book the rooms, do all the shopping, spoon feed them a list of tackle, we'd be screwed by the time we got to the lakes because they don't like doing the research and behind the scenes legwork.  They want to hop in the truck, get the lake, party and be put on fish.  I want multiple long trips, I do all the work.  I eat what I want, drink what I want, go where I want.... i have tons of fun, so i've come to terms with it over the years.  At least theres good company the ability to plan trips in the future.   Hell, i've told everyone where were going in 2023 and everyones onboard!   It's like having a big intoxicated adult toddler with an ice fishing habit.

That’s what I do as well. I think I’m done though. I enjoy the planning, the research all of that but I don’t enjoy babysitting. I have a few guys I go with who are like me and put in the work and I’m going to try to do more trips with them. I’m doing lake of the woods this year but I’m nervous about it not being my type of fishing.

used to be like that, now we're down to 3 or 4 of us close friends.  zero issues, we all bring too much food and too much booze, bait, gear, smoke...

We have 1 guy that puts everything on his card.  Hotel, gas, bait and food and keeps all receipts.  On the way home, after filling the truck back to full, we add it up and divide equally.

Everyone is responsible for their own beer and it works well this way.

We're all professionals. Some guys pick up gas...some guys pick up tabs. We all pay our share of hotel and no one cares. I do the planning but it comes out virtually equal...we don't worry dollar for dollar. That's what friends do. When we go out for dinners or go on large vacations we don't count up every dollar. That's just the way we live our lives. Not a big deal to any of us.

My buddy and I start with one of our trucks filled starting the trip. Throw $300 each in a envelope. Once the envelope gets close to empty, throw another $100 in till the end of the trip. Fill the truck back up at the end of the trip.
Money covers hotel, dinner, drinks, bait and other items.
Split the money at the end.
If he drank more this trip, I’ll probably do it next time.
That’s what friends do.
Unfortunately, now he has a new girlfriend who replaced me.
Guess he’s getting more/better benefit’s……………..
