New to CO Hardwater
« on: Dec 07, 2021, 12:58 AM »
Hi all, I'm new to CO ice and live over in Jefferson County. Used to fish out on CT and NY so I'm accustomed to Yellows and Rainbows through the ice. I'm looking to introduce a beginner to this most ultimate of pastimes sometime in January, but don't know where to look yet. I don't mind a drive for a good day's fishing. If anyone cares to impart some knowledge as to a few good lakes for a shot at a modest day out, I would greatly appreciate it.

You can try Antero if trout are what you after.

If you’re just looking for a few fish and not a “monster”, give Clear Creek or Cottonwood a try. Easy access and plenty of stockers to play with!  ;)

Run out to 11 mile. It can be a tough lake if you don’t know the terrain but avenger out there are good size, 18” ish. Terryall is another good little stocker… but now that you in CO, your gonna have to get use to not a lot of water like you had in the north east. Seems more and more water is becoming a massive topic and fires are getting worse every year
Be well and DO Good Work!

Being in the SW corner of the state, i’m not current on front range hot spots. However, Sloan’s is in your neighbor hood and used to be hot for pan fish. Those high lakes like Tarryall, Elevenmile can rival anything in upstateNY for nasty weather. Great for ice boats. That said the most fun Ive had was thru almost 4’ of ice on 11 mile when the bite was on.
