Chubby darter colors
« on: Dec 02, 2008, 09:34 PM »
Finally decided to bite the bullet and buy some chubbys.  I want them for large eyes and pike.  Anyone have any favorite colors they would like to share?

I agree with Agronomist_at_IA glow is great....but I also use this hot perch pattern a lot as well:

I find that I have the best success with the CD #3.

I like the Perch, and the Bluegill.  Have not had to try the other ones in my box yet.

For Mille Lacs walleyes I like to use the Hot Perch, and the Gold Metallic Orange.

Salmo is running a special on #6 chubby darters, 3 for $10. (S&H is like $7.50) http://www.salmofishing.com/lures/chubby_darter.html I like the Perch, Gold Met Orange, Viking, Red Tail Shiner and Lum Dace. Salmo also has some special colors floating around specific to certain stores.

Ya, that bugs me.  I have a couple colors I haven't seen anywhere other than where I bought them.  I'd like to know all the different colors available.

I have one that is black/dark red on the top, red sided with scales, and chrome on the bottom in a size 3 that I use for perch.

Goldfinger is a new color they just came out with. Its basically a shiney chrome gold (All Gold with a pattern on it) Gold has always worked well for me on other lures. I saw that sunfish pattern in IF mag but can't find them. Red Rock store has some special colors as well as many others chains.

In terms of favorite colors, for darters or any other bait.....my rule of thumb is that the clearer the water, the more realistic you want the colors to be.  For clear water, some kind of perch colors are always good.  For dark water, consider some of the brighter colors or glow.

I also have this one...purchased from RedRock Store

It has been very successful for me...mostly for Northern Pike oddly enough.

Thanks for the heads up!  Now I need to get home and check my tackle box for colors,  $6 bucks a piece with shipping, that's a pretty good price I think

If you buy more than one set of three the shipping is combined.

Resurrection of a 2008 thread... WOW! Every color I have tried has worked, I do use perch more than anything and I love my glow red one... Correction, I have a blue-backed chrome one that I don't use much and have yet to get anything on it... I will just have to use it more.

I have a few colors but I vary my size more as they "feel" your lure long before they see the color of it.
