My father checked the ice on IP the day before christmas, said 4-5" then.
I would imagine there will be 6" by this weekend. He checked off the boat launch, went about 100yards out. Not sure about other spots to access, but IP is usually pretty consistent with the ice thickness. Good luck if you make it out there. Ill be headed up soon.

Thanks for the update bud! Unfortunately was not able to go out on Sunday. I did hit strawberry acres at Magog on Saturday with no luck as far as trout. Lots of decent perch 10-12”. One of the guys I was fishing with caught a nice laker about 5 lbs probably 30 yards from one of my traps. Also a small pike a little ways out. There was consistently 6” of ice where we were at a little ways out from the access. Didn’t go towards the islands as it looked a little unsafe

Unfortunately the internet has not been nice to IP the last few years. Been fished hard with a combination of keeping everything they catch has taken its toll.

Usually a slow day whenever I go up there. It is worth it to even get a
one keeper walleye though. I don’t know of where else in this general area to fish for them, never targeted them until the last few years.

FACT.
I grew up fishing this lake, both winter and summer. Used to be great fishing. My dad and I used to catch big yellows by the numbers. The last 5 years has been hard on the fishery there.

It’s happening to a lot of bodies of water in this state, with the warmer winter temps and Champlain not frozen these other places get hammered.
