The Power of IS
« on: Nov 03, 2006, 08:03 PM »
I just got off the phone with Brad from WI, a new member of IceShanty. I came to know him through Ebay, where I sold him a Marum LX3. He had posted on here that there were some problems with the unit, and the good folks here offered ideas on how to fix the problem. It turns out that Marcum stood behind the product and fixed the problem for him.

But after talking to Brad for some time tonight, it got me to thinking about this site. Even though I met him on Ebay, it was our posts on this site that got us talking on the phone.
And then I started thinking about about how much I've learned from site, how many really good people I've met. People with funny names like "C.C." and "Bean", "Icenutter", " BeerJigger" and others that I have been able to fish with, and of course my fishing partner "The Spud".

And the folks that I have not met in person, but I know would help me out on there local waters, people with the mysterious names of "SlipBob" or "OakOrachardFishKing" or the great "Grumpster", or the infamous "HaliMan" and a host of others. Truly, too many list.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think I could go fishing anywhere in the world, and somebody on here would point me in the right direction. And you would forgive my grammar errors................ ..........

A very sincere THANK YOU
80% of Americans are unhappy with the direction our once great Country is heading. Yet 80% of Americans insist on buying blue jeans that were made in China, coffee filters that were made in Taiwan and anything else that was made anywhere but here........wonder if there might be a connection?

If the world was more like us heere on IS, maybe we wouldn't have all those problems in the world. If I went to IS or the firehouse or hunting, etc. every day and the only stress :%$#!: I got was from my wife telling me to get off the computer or to come home, that would be the greatest thing in the world. After all the ONE thing that I really love other the ones listed above is my family  ;D

Byron....you hit the nail on the head....Iceshanty is community and although we can associate with some great people here without ever meeting them, I can say this...Mountainmama and I have had the great pleasure of meeting afew outside of our province and we have not been the least disappointed or disillusioned whatsoever....a few come to mind.....TGF...he came down last spring for 9 days and we had a blast fishing some spots for different species....we're going to do it again this spring.....AKDG drove out of his way on the journey home from Alaska, and we sat around and told stories like we had been around the campfire before...what a great guy!!...one thing in common?...a passion for the outdoors and the sport we love the most...ICEFISHING!....going to meet somemore over this season and I know I wont be the least disappointed....sure wish I could hook up one day with yourself, BarleyDog, GeRm, Icechip, VC, Cider, Troutslayer just to name a few....some of your not mentioned will be this winter.....cheers....G rump

I agree with ya Byron 100%. I love this place and that even includes when there are some differences in opinion ;) I'd just love to be able to take a winter and just travel around to all the different members favorite lakes and fish a day.

When I discovered this site last winter, I did not know what a goldmine it was.  I was just looking for tips on catching trout with tip-ups, got so much more!!!  I never did get  any trout, but in hanging out here I learned so much about ice fishing in general that I immediately started catching more fish!!!

I've learned new presentations and learned how to better use my equipmen.  IS is just like being on the ice, where else can you just walk up to a total stranger and talk like you've known them forever.  Even if I never catch another fish, or go ice fishing again(God don't let that happen)  :'( :o ;) I will still visit this site a few times everyday all winter.
I love a flag!!!!

There are soo many great guys on Iceshanty that this site really becomes more than an informative forum, it is a community. Not only will guys tell you if the fish are biting or not, but they'll go as far to tell you what you need to do to help your cause. Its the selflessness that makes Iceshanty so great. Sure guys have their secret spots that they intend to keep secret, (I know I have a few) but those same guys will take the time to help out a newcomer to icefishing and tell them what they need and where to go. There's more than the typical baitshop BS here. I have learned so much in the few years I have been a member, that I can't imagine how I would be fishing without Iceshanty.

Thank you to everyone who helps this site run, which is basically all the members! You guys kick @ss!

And a sincere thanks to you all who have helped me through the years, there are far too many to name, but they know who they are. 8)

And most of all, THANK YOU SCOTT for making this site what it is today!
