pros/cons convince me

Have the vexilar fl18 pro pack, have had it for a long time. Like the idea of a helix unit. Looked at reviews and prices. Convince me to keep my vex or go to a helix

Love my Helix 7 combo. Just pulled it from the boat and put it in the shuttle case and changed from open water to ice.

bought a helix 5 GPS last year for ice. It is great. the autochart live lets you map as u jump from hole to hole and find the spot on the spot. be sure to enable the Real Time Sonar option under the advanced options

Just having a graph is a whole new world. Seeing movement over time will let you find and watch far more fish in clutter, weeds and right on the bottom, not to mention the massive color palette compared to a vex. I don't know why anyone still uses a vex, quite honestly. Plus, GPS and waypoints are a huge bonus. Find structure and fish, mark them, and punch a hole right on top of them next time. There's no dead reckoning, then drilling around aimlessly as you try to search for the sweet spot you swear was right there last time. Get the bird, and don't look back.

If you have a boat you tool around in for open water, get it set up for that as well. Being able to find structure with the side scan, mark it and then drill on top of it come ice season is almost cheating.

What does the Vex do that the Helix can't ? What does the Helix do that the Vex can't ? If you answer both questions It should make your choice rather easy.

I think its more of mechanical verse digital, dial verse graphs.

Sure you can run a dial on your hummingbird but everyone I see using them runs graphs with a zoom.

I personally think Hummingbird makes the best screens. Target separation is good and its very accurate. For overall use, the Hummingbird can be used year round, the vex not so much.

My FL-12 is now my backup

A graph is quiet, and you can look back and see the last few seconds if you look away for some reason. My Garmin graph also has a flasher mode if you can't adapt to the rectangular display.

The only minus is with more options, comes more complexity in getting it set up optimally.

This. I love my Garmin ice setup but it does have a lot of options. I normally run split zoom on my screen so I can really focus on the bottom while still being able to see the entire water column for suspended fish. I try to keep it simple, A-Scope, Split zoom (I keep it to only 2 screens), adjust my cone angle for the fishing I am doing and I'm ready to go. I do have my screen scroll speed set pretty fast.

I've tried using the flasher dial but always go back to split zoom.

Yep - I have the GT-10 for my ice fishing set up. I'm selling the GT-54, so I was asking what a fair asking price would be.

NIB, Id go for 220 at least under normal conditions, but look, if stores are out of stock on them due to supply chain issues, you may be able to ask more. of course most will try to haggle you down regardless of what price you list it at.
