Thompson lake
« on: Feb 01, 2021, 08:21 PM »
Looking at renting a house on the north end of Thompson lake at end of Feb with my family and 4 kids
Is this lake worth it - trying to find good ice and place where kids can catch fish jigging or with traps
Any advice would be great

I have fished the far northern end many times. That area is mostly shallow and there are lots of tree stumps and weeds. It is primarily bass, perch and warm water fish. I would not recommend going out towards the middle of the lake without checking with someone local first. If you were looking to fish for Togue , cusk and bass you could drive down to the southern end and walk on from next to the marina.

I have fished both the north end and the big part of the lake this year.  Very slow in both areas...  On the north end only 4 flags in 4 days with 2 lost bait and 2 lost hooks due to fish wrapping around stumps.  On the big part of the lake only 1 flag in 2 days. I would try the south end and hope for better luck.

I would recommend driving down to the southern end of the lake. Try in depths of 45’-60’. I like to use smelts right off the bottom.
