This has nothing to do with ice being safe or unsafe.  I it is about being reasonable or unreasonable.  With the amount of ice that we have around here driving on some/most local lakes with an SUV is not reasonable.  Some people just do not understand what they are getting into.  The ice could be perfectly safe yes safe for fishing but not for driving on.  There is an inheritance risk with most things we do like driving a car.  But driving to work in the morning is not what I would personally call unsafe.

Some people simply are not educated enough on the topic.  I was checking a spot on LA early ice.  A buddy hit the spud bar there was two inches.  There were people there playing ice hockey who were father out and on deeper water.  We had a conversation.  They chose to leave.  At the same time there were plenty of people out fishing with no issues on other areas of the lake.

Thank you for sharing the information.

He made it pretty far surprisingly.  I bet he'll be paying some fat Allegheny county fines.
