4-6 man shelter search
« on: Feb 09, 2021, 10:38 PM »
Looking to get a larger shelter. My wife usually goes and thinking a couple years down the road for when my little man is big enough to go too. Want to make sure he has room to move around and not trip on gear. Definitely want to go insulated. What are some recommendations? Anyone have any leads on a good deal?

I got the Cabelas/Clam ice team 5 sided 360tc a few year back. Big hub shelter, thermal roof, 360 windows. Fits my family of 4. It's a beast but lighter than any 3-4 man flipover. If we could use machines to get out on ice it would be different but for PA waters it works well.

I have the Guide Gear 6' x 12' shelter, bought from the sportsman's guide 2 years ago, works great. Still looks like new after many trips on Presque Isle bay, Pymatuning, Lake Pleasant, Woodcock Dam, Canadohta Lake, and even took it to cananda to Lake Simco when we could still cross the border. I think I paid less than $250 for it when I bought it. Highly recommend.

eskimo quickfish 5i. Great for 4 guys and all the gear. a bit heavy but they all are when they get this big. I do like the looks of the new ones with the big doors to get in and out without tripping yourself

I have the 5i too. It's nice, but I'd like at one of the new eskimo shelters if I were buying now. The 5i gets crowded quickly too.

I have the same Hub, Cabela's 360, it's a beast but boy is it nice. I really like the windows, the zippers on the doors can be an issue but we have figured out a fix for them.

Hey, just the zippers. I called Clam a few years ago asking about the zippers. They suggested that I put the tie down straight down instead of far out like you would do with a normal tent. They said the hub was designed to be held against the ice. That seemed to help a lot. The other thing is we don't force the zippers and use a clip and bungee to keep the door closed. Normally we only fish tipups so we go in and out of the hub pretty often.

I have the eskimo 450XD with the walk thru door.  I really like it.  I think they make a 650 as well.
