Yup, they are weird little things we have them up here in NY too. I am from PA so I was just checking in on the fishing reports down there and noticed this topic, from all the information Ive gathered they are ok to eat even with the worms in them but I have to agree with most I would much rather catch clean fish.

Make a box with a clear see though top, place a light in the box.  Then you place your fish on top and the light goes through.  This helps you to see them.

i was cutting up a pike the other day and found something very similar to this. was there an indentation in the meat where the worm appeared to be?

Cut'em out and if you care to, any of the surrounding flesh, cook thoroughly You'll be fine. At least I know what they are and can remove them.
Given the amount of contaminants allowed in our other foods that you don't even see or know about, these little things, when removed, wouldn't bother me a bit.

NO INDENTATION AT ALL. IT JUST LOOKED LIKE A SPOT OF BLOOD INSIDE THE MEAT

Don't fish the Great Lakes for perch then because you'll be wasting a lot of fish to find some that don't have the worms.

I would agree. I have caught a few this year and let them go.

i would say the same thing,if you dont trust them, you could still have fun catching them and letting them go for someone else who would eat them :)
