Another use for an ice shanty--
« on: Nov 16, 2006, 10:41 PM »
A buddy of mine, whom I work with, left work early today so he could set his portable Shapell shanty and heater up outside the local K-Mart. Yep, he's a man on a mission for a PS3. I am blown away by the people after this thing. $600 is alot of money for a gaming system, esp when you have to camp out for it. Sorry, no pics, maybe some of you have seen some of these folks.

I can think of a lot better stuff to spend $600 on, lifetime fishing permit maybe. Why spend time in front of a tv when you can spend it outdoors? I just dont get it why someone will spend that kind of money just to play games :o

People here in Fairbanks have been sitting outside Wally World for a couple days in below zero temperatures for the same thing :cookoo:. My bet is if they had to do it to get a job or a hot meal or something worth while they would likely be whining and complaining :%$#!: or not even show up at all.

At least your friend had the smarts enough to have some protection from the cold and wind.

Sounds like 1979 trying to get Pink Floyd tickets. Oh well if my kids want one they will need to get a job because $600 is way too much and If you wait a year it will be 99 bucks on sale. This is why I ice fish all the crazy people are playing video games or at the wall-e-world and not on the lake so I can have the real world all to my self. ;D

Some are buying them to resell and make some money. According to the local paper this morning one was sold on ebay for $30,300.00 and they have been selling on ebay for $3,000.00. People must be really addicted to this stuff. I figure they have never looked at a flasher in a shanty.  ;D ;)

I just checked on ebay and there were 7,582 for sale there. I browsed the first page and there were bids from $5,100 bucks on down to about 1,800. I could have a very nice drop down shanty for $5,100.00. Maybe I have a one track mind. :o

I walked into Walmart at 2:50 this morning to get a bottle of Gatorade for work and they still had 2 left yet people were camping outside the store the past 2 days to get them.
