Ice Strong "the pulse" experience?
« on: Nov 23, 2020, 11:58 AM »
Hello Hello,
looking to make a setup for fishing early-ice shallow clear-water bluegills.
most spring bobbers ive tried have not been light enough to load well using 3mm tungsten jigs, let alone the smaller lead jigs i plan to try this season.
Curious if anyone has tried the Ice Strong "pulse" spring bobber with 2.5 mm tungsten or the 1/72 oz mudbug size jigs, and their thoughts on the effectiveness of the spring bobber?
thanks in advance!

I only use and love Ice Strong's but I have not tried the Pulse. I believe it is new this year. I use the Ultra light on my 2.5mm, 3mm and 4mm and it works fine. But I would not hesitate to use the Pulse on the 2.5mm...if I had one. I kind of put together a chart and order them accordingly as they are difficult to tell the difference for me:

Pulse: .010 2-3mm (orange)
Ultra light:  .014  3-4mm (green)
Original: .016  4-5mm (pink)
XL  .020  5-6mm  (red)

Anyway, I hope this helped.

much appreciated! im always skeptical when it comes to spring bobbers and what the company says "works" on it. Makes sense that a spring bobber made for 4mm jigs may not be light enough for 2.5mm so im hoping the pulse will be just what im looking for for ultra finesse presentations.    i have a "pulse" spring bobber at home i have to pick a rod to add it to. bring on the ice!!!

Couple other things with these springs. First, I modify mine a bit. I like them "off to the side". So I will bend about 1/2" from the end that attaches to the rod at 90*. Place it on the rod almost straight up and down...cheating it just a little to one side...I like left. Easier for me to see the bite. Secure it with a small piece of tape to hold it , then wrap it several times with sewing thread. Top it off with some nail polish. Second, I bend the loop straight down. The line rests and reels through it better. And last, pinch the loop to open it up to a full circle. The reason? These springs are a bit brittle. If you're not careful, they can break off. So opening the loop also allows you to pull your jig through it before attaching it to the hook keeper. Takes the load off the spring during transport and storing. Just a couple of suggestions for you.
