I got on a pond last weekend at daylight, drilled a few holes and dropped the sounder in the hole, fish everywhere and very aggressive for about  15 mins, (should have got there alot earlier)..So, yes, morning bite can be very good.

Got to the pond at o dark thirty this morning and it was kinda chilly lateen wasn’t working so glad I had a led flashlight drilled a few holes and put the machine it and screen was loaded with fish. Put the flashlight to the jigs and away we went. Had 15 fish in the bucket by the time the sun came up. It was a lot of fun. Had a pack of coyotes 75 yards from me on the po d start yipping kinda earie when you are the only one out there and you can see the eyes with the light when you shine it towards them. When the sun came up they wanted a pink blade spoon and crushed it as long tipped with spikes tried worm but they swam away ofc the pond at 930 with a limit or crappie for 4.5 hours not a bad day nothing huge but most 10 inches or bigger couple smaller ones that had to go home cause they swallowed the kid and were bleeding. About 10 people when I left and all fishing traps and I think I saw three flags the whole time the sun was up seems like it was slow on the traps but I was doing well caught 47 fish today and the only reason I keep track is a buddy and I have a bet going on who catches the most fish this season. Had 14 inches of ice in southern nh hope it last a couple more weeks with the weather coming hope everyone had a good day

Couple pics of the fish today didn’t get one with the full limit but fish tacos tomorrow night

Nice work! Any size to the coyotes?
How's the ice they all ask? "I’ll tell you what, you can get a good look at a t-bone by sticking your head up a bull’s butt, but I’d rather take the butcher’s word for it."

when fishing that early, what depths would you fish? Having trouble locating crappie lately after 8 AM in our typical 24 FOW. A month ago, they were always there, scattered, but there.

We had coyotes visit us on the ice several times over the years. This happened on Deering a few times, Newfound and up in the mills on Winni.

They are typically just checking for a meal (they smell bait, dead fish, etc.) but certainly get your attention.

Note: make some noise (fire up the gas auger if you have one) and they will scatter.

Great Job! As others have said, early morning can be HOT.
Just add water.
