tip up plans/parts
« on: Oct 28, 2006, 12:17 PM »
Was wondering if anyone has resources for tip up parts and/or plans?  I haven't fished much wth tip ups, just used buddy's now and again but would like to do more.  I'm back to being a poor college student and have a wood shop.  If I can find parts inexpensively, I can fab my own inexpensively.  Please help
Thanks

I think Fish307 use to sell parts for tip-ups.

For the price of some of the "cheaper" wooden tip ups you really have no reason to make them, even as a poor college student (I was there one time too).  Some of the sporting goods stores here in NYS sell a cheap 6 to 7 dollar wooden tip up that will do ok for the recreational angler.  By the time you invest in all the necessary parts you will invest all ready half of the money.

It does "add" a bit when you catch that lunker on the tipup you made when you tell the story :)

      dwayne,
I see you don't live too far from me. Do you ever go to Albany??? I have some extra wooden tip-ups if you want them. Pay for shipping or I could drop them off. It's your call. Let me know either way.

Here's what my first tip-ups looked like. Pretty simple and cheap to build.  I used to un-spool extra line and use a bobber to hold the line off the bottom so the fish could run with it for a bit.  Then when the fish hit the end of the line, the tip up would stand up so you knew you had one.  Hope this helps.  Any questions just ask me.
