Thorn Bros. makes a really nice one out of fiberglass

$$$$$.  :(

Buy an ugly stick and saw off the rod right next to the handle. Epoxy the upper half back into the handle and you got a sweet laker jiggin rod.

Biggest thing lad with a soft rod you can't really make the jigs or spoons that lakers like work right as most are heavy and often your working deeper water .At 50 ft plus depths even though some are shallower we use heavier spoons and jigs and you will work your arse off trying to work them with a soft rod and getting a good hook set on wooden mouth is easier said than done . ;)

There are several quality rods available, and some for a bit less cash that will get the job done.

1)  Thorne Bros Professional Plus (been mentioned already) available in casting and
spinning models.  I have a 36" casting reel model, longer rods are available.

2)  St Croix Avid Heavy 32" (buy em quick, the avids are being cut to slim down the
production models available, only Premiers and Legends for next year)

3)  Berkley Lightning Rod 36" casting, original Genz rod preferred, but prolite models
     will do.

4)  Ugly Stik, Ugly Ice model, just the rod, the reel available in combos wont hold up

5)  HT Polar Ice, 34" Heavy, the rods will pull up logs if you have to.

The price ranges from $20 to $75 bucks depending on the models you get.

line is the biggest thing.  especialy with higher depths.  you need a very low strech line.  spider wire or any type of braided line.  that should do the trick.  then you can enjoy the fight that comes with the softer rods but still get good hooksets and line tension!
