Im gonna give a river a shot, that doesnt have many steelhead in it, but there are a few. Im very amature with them, does anyone having any tips or tricks I should try? I hear they get them on waxies, with a small hook, and a split shot. a few on eggs, and a few casting. there are no salmon in there so, I dont know how eggs would do. any help?

p789, try spawn sacks under a slip float. Set depth for just above the bottom. A #6 hook and a couple small slit-shots. I use flourocarbon leaders under the float.

Just cast and drift. Cast and drift. Look for deeper holes in your river. If no hits move to another hole. Eddies and turns in the rivers will usually produce more fish.

Good Luck, let us know how you do.

three way swivel, short 1 ft line for split shot (just enought to feel it tick off the bottom) and about a 2 ft line to a small treble (#12 - 14) hidden in a egg sac.  Long (12 ft) light action rod with a good backbone.  Fish 4 lb test leaders and 6 lb main line.

Patience and a lot of casting is the name of the game.
