Searching for a new hut
« on: Jan 03, 2020, 01:23 PM »
Right now I have a Clam Kenai and I love everything about it. I'm thinking about buying the Nanook XL thermal. Does any one have any suggestions as to why or why not? I don't personally know anyone that has one.

For a 1  person. look at a  shappell bay runner. I think they are the best!

I just got the nanook xl thermal.  Have it assembled but have yet to use it out on the hard water.  Seems really nice.

I am a huge fan of Eskimo hubs and flipovers. They are well constructed and have removable windows.

They do have great service. They quit sending free parts a few years ago, but still have better service than most.

I have the older Clam Nanook. It works great for my wife and is fairly easy to pull by hand minus seats that come with it. I don't usually fish inside shelter unless it super windy or super cold or when I need to hide from catching fish so I don't get people coming and fishing right next to me.  The only thing I don't like about it is the center height. I am only 5'10" and I have to be hunched over when standing inside shelter. The Nanook XL has larger fishing area and higher center height. I went inside of one set up at our local Cabelas and liked it alot, but can't justify buying another shelter right now.

Being 6'5" I chose the new nanook xl based on its size.  Biggest and lightest two man flip available in that price range.  I'm the same way jerryfising, I can't stand still too long in one spot with no action, I move too much to be anchored down.

The wife was pretty much the biggest influence on me buying a shelter.  She wanted one more than I did...I don't really care.  I'm the knucklehead out on the ice when it's 15 degrees out with no gloves or beanie... heck the one time I forgot my pac boots and just wore my asics running shoes on the ice...didnt bother me, lol
