Vexilar- "Gain"
« on: Jan 03, 2020, 09:48 PM »
Generally speaking, what level is your gain on when using a Vexilar.
I have the Vexilar FL 18.

Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

You're close. AZ (auto zoom) is the feature you are talking about. Split screen  shows the bottom 6' on the left, normal view on the right. When using AZ, you have to switch the unit off when changing holes. Then switch it to AZ when the transducer is back in the water. This does not apply to normal view.

As for the gain. First, I like my depth setting so bottom is shown between 5 and 7 o'clock. Then I run enough gain so that my jig appears on the screen. The deeper you go and more weeds, etc, the more gain that is required. A well charged battery helps too. Good luck.

Depends.alot of variables come into play.even transducers.running a proview i rarely turn the gain past 1 unless in lp mode then depending on depth could be half way or more.it all depends on the lake and situation i guess.

Generally around 2 with a "normal" sized jig on an FL8.  If I'm using a tiny fly or something, I may have to go to about 4 or however high I can go before there is too much clutter to stand it.

Just got back from Lake of the Woods. In 30 feet of water on AZ had my gain on my Fl-18 set at around 3.5. Using 1/8oz Buckshot Rattle Spoons and Kastmasters.

The GAIN knob controls the amount of signal that gets interpreted by the unit ..nothing to do with power out per se..vertical baits will reflect alot less signal.

fish alot of shallow water < 15' and it was usually at 0 sometimes at 1.     on the 18 maybe up to a 2 in deeper water.   They should make 0 a screen clear.  it would render the LP mode unnecessary.

I tend to fish in 8-14 FOW with 0-3 ft of weeds.  My gain is usually set at 2 or less on my FL18.
