I use Woodstock blood red  35lb. It was suggested on this site and I have been very happy with it.

Are you not using braid?

I've been using braided Dacron for years and it doesn't have any stretch at all.
I even have braid on my in-line reels for the lack of stretch and quicker hook sets.

Do you jig outside of a shanty?  Don't you experience line freezing issues if you do?  I like braid but it doesn't do well in the cold.  As far as tip up line it shouldn't matter much since the spool is in the water.  Guys even use kite string on tip ups.

Dacron is your best low stretch, cost efficient option. 30 - 36# test makes it easier handling without compromising spool capacity. Dealers choice on color...

Wax coated braided dacron is great. The wax helps prevent water absorption, so when pulling a fish in with alot of line out, it doesnt freeze in a pile on the ice. Which is HUGE if a fish goes on a run.

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.

+1 on the Woodstock. I run red, orange, or black depending which traps I bring. I would suggest against the black though - hard to see which way the line is running at times.

Hard to beat Mason tip-up line, in my opinion. I usually run 30lb.

FWIW: All line labelled "tipup line" is not necessarily low stretch. Many so called tipup line are nylon and have considerably more stretch than Dacron. Nylon and Dacron will look almost identical side by side but they are very different animals. Gotta look at the spool label. Some manufacturers make both. Grab some nylon, peel off a few feet and stretch it with your hands. You can feel the bounce. Now try it with Dacron and you'll see.

I have seen wax coated nylon lines (pretty common) but not wax coated Dacron. Could be because I have not looked for it. Bought into a bulk spool of Gudebrod PTFE coated Dacron and it will be many years before I'm in the market again. Not saying it isn't, I'm just not familiar with that product.

I've run just about all the colors under the sun and found it really didn't seem to make a significant difference on getting bit. I do agree with black/dark line being hard to see. One guy I fished with had some fluorescent orange fly line backing. He caught fish so...

Last deal is the braid quality. I had some Dacron (can't remember the mfg) where the braid was so loose that the line was extremely "floppy". Hooks and everything else got snagged in it very easily and it held a ton of water. Two seasons of battling with it saw me R/R for something with a tighter weave.

I've always used black braided dacron on all my tipups and never had any issues.  I like the 40 pound version because it's a bit thicker.  I've had the same line on my tipups for twenty years and never had it break.  Mason and Woodstock make good line and you can get it in different colors such as red, green, or tan besides black.  I never tried any other colors so I can't say if they're any better or worse but I wouldn't hesitate trying the green or red.

I bought a huge spool of black dacron years ago and it holds up well!
