Scout XL or Scout SLR?
« on: Apr 07, 2006, 02:35 PM »
I was browsing through all the stores that sell these on-line and came across this site.

This is my 1st time posting. I need some advice on which of these to buy.

My wife is getting me one for my birthday, and I can't decide. I live in Mid-Michigan and I ice fish for Walleye in about 20 - 25 feet of water on Saginaw Bay. I also fish for rainbow trout on a few inland lakes in the summer at night. The inland lakes are clear water. I'm not sure what the water is like on the bay at the depth I mentioned, but I would guess it's fairly clear with a sand bottom.

Some people on this site have stated that the SLR light scares walleye, and that it's not worth the extra expense.

Could everyone offer some advice on which model I should go for?  TIA

Thanks for all the help. 22 views and not one reply!!!
I went with the SLR lighting since the infrared is useless at night.

Fisheater,
I was one of the viewers, because I thought it was a question I would like to hear the answer to.  I am thinking about the same purchase and would like to know what others think with experience.  I am thinking I'll wait until next winter.  Maybe that is why no responses due to end of the season.  Don't let the lack of response of your first post keep you away.  This forum is packed with info, it is just a little slow during summer months.

I a;ways thought infrared was the ticket to night time viewing.

I went to the Aqua-Vu web site and sent an E-mail to them based on my conditions (listed in my 1st post). The reply that I rec'd stated that SLR is the way to go since IR is useless in the dark. I asked about SLR spooking the fish and they stated that some people feel this way, but they said that the light also attracts fish. They said that the Scout SLR has a brightness control, so you can turn down the lights intensity if you think it spooks the fish.
