Oscoda area
« on: Jan 01, 2019, 01:52 PM »
Hey guys!

We have a cottage up on Cedar Lake in Oscoda and I was thinking about coming up for the weekend. Anyone know how (or if) the ice is on Cedar or VanEtten?

Thanks!

I remember there being someone on here with Oscoda in the name but couldn’t remember exactly what it was! Maybe he will pop on in the next day or so. If not I’ll call The Dam Store and get the scoop.

Good Morning,

Over the weekend VanEtten had opened back up. There have been folks on Cedar. I think you'll be good to go for this weekend especially with these temps.

Thanks a lot for the info!

We don’t have any ice here down state and I’m itching to get out there. I took my boat out on Cedar this past summer and didn’t really do good at all. I don’t get up there to fish nearly as often as I used to but it’s nothing like I remember it being! Maybe I’ll get lucky and find a few but it’ll just be nice to get out.

A buddy of mine will be getting a better report after he gets off work. It will be dark by the time I can swing by and check it. I'll update when I hear from him.

From what I hear talking to folks at work, there are some good gills being caught if you find the right spot.

That would be awesome! We only live a few houses down off of lake to lake. I remember fishing down by the bridge a lot when I was younger. Our neighbor would always come back with buckets of perch too! He would always bring us some over but he wouldn’t tell a soul where he caught them!

Just got word from my buddy, he didn’t get out on the ice after work.
I’m not off until Sunday so I’m no help either.
Knowing where you are now... you’re in a good spot. Stay just North of the bridge on the East side. There is a nice flat/weed bed - with a drop off. If you have a Flasher you should be able to find something.
If you come into town stop by Roger’s. I’ll be there afternoon Friday and the majority of Saturday.

Hope you get on them.

No worries, you’ve been more than helpful! I was looking at my Navionics map last night and that is exactly where I was going to go lol. I do have a flasher so as long as the ice is good enough to trek around on I’ll find some!

Did you guys get much snow yesterday evening? Looks like after the weekend you guys are in for a nice cold streak. We are still projecting 40s....

Yea, we got some. Seems to be about 2” at my place. I’m just south of Cedar Lake by Interlake Dr. so it should be about the same for your place. Friday and Saturday looks to be gorgeous days to get out.

Good luck out there!

Great! Looking forward to getting away and getting out there for a few! I’ll post some pics if we end up getting into them at all.

Thanks again!

Well here’s the catch of the day! Lol 😆 I found that weed bed and about 5 fow. Marked a couple others at one time but they weren’t interested. I’m going to go find some spikes and minnows and try those. Seen one other shanty straight across from our cottage on the other side. The ice was a good 6 inches in front of our place but it did vary some. Shorelines are a little busted.

Absolutely! If that area I tried this evening doesn’t do well in the morning I’m going to shoot across the lake. Looks like there another hole about 6ft or so. I stopped by Rogers and picked up some waxies. After I left I started thinking maybe that was you I talked to? You mentioned something about swinging by there and I didn’t put it together until I left lol.

Haha, yup that was me. Well you wiped us out of waxies so if you need more - Wellman's for sure will have them. Good luck bud.

Hit Cedar yesterday. 5”-6” of good ice. Didn’t catch any keepers but it was nice to finally get out.

There were folks on VanEtten yesterday, not sure how the ice is. Next weekend we’ll probably try to hit it.

Good luck.
