i1 HOUR CRAPPIE SESSION
« on: Jan 14, 2019, 02:08 PM »
Hi all,

Snuck round the corner for a sneaky one hour session before work.

Fish were being very picky but got a few and missed a few.

I always enjoy watching your videos.  The one where you missed a big lake trout at the hole is the story of my life.  Fortunately, I've learned not to stress out about it and just drop the jig back down the hole.  Years ago it would have bothered me for days running through all the could've should've scenarios.

Your videos inspire me to try for crappie.  Do you look for certain depths when you're looking for crappie?  What would you look for in a lake that holds crappie populations if you'd never fished there before?

It seems a general rule here on Lake Wabigoon that under the ice the crappie tend to be in the 25-30 foot range, but other lakes they are still deep(ish) but can be in as shallow as 16 feet of water.

I keep my ear to the ground for spots and will search nearby areas I know hold fish and try different depths etc.

Ok thanks! I always figured they would be in shallow weedy bays.  I'll have to do some searching around for them.  It makes sense now that I've pulled at few jigging for trout in deeper water but this has always surprised me.
