New to Old Town
« on: Jan 02, 2019, 07:28 PM »
Hey everyone. I’m returning to the Shanty after about a 7 year hiatus. I’m new to the old town area and am looking for a decent trout fishing pond. I’ve heard a little bit about Mud Pond and was wondering if it’s worth drilling holes in.

It's OK. The place can be a zoo since it is so close to town. The state has done a good job feeding the pike with stocked trout. LOL.

Welcome to town Mistah! I'm just around the corner in Orono. Mud pond is a decent choice for short drive. Its strictly a put and take fishery, no hold over from the previous year so as the winter goes on the number of trout in there goes down and down. Its not known for being great action, but hey its close! You have a hard time finding many trout ponds within a 30 min drive of home, but if you expand that out to 1 hr drive, there are ton of opportunities for brookies, splake, salmon, and touge (and warmwater fish). Do some research on lakes around the Milo area to the NW, Cold Stream Pond to the NE, or Bucksport-Amherst area to the SW for a bunch of fishing opportunities.

Hit me up if you have any questions or need a buddy. I'm out on the ice most weekends
Gotta Fishem' All!
