Gull Lake Whites
« on: Mar 16, 2006, 10:51 PM »
My fishing buddy and I were out on Gull today.Started fishing at 8am and both of us had our limits by 10am.We were fishing the west side of lake on Golf Course Road in 10 feet of water. We fished till noon catch and release and caught and seen large numbers of whites. The fish were going for yellow & red floaters, yellow & orange hook with an amber bead on eye end of hook and orange lazer wraps. The whites have definitely started to move around and are more aggressive.

Hothook, I cant for the life of me find Golf Course Road. I did see going from highway 2 west to Rimbey, a  <--- Golf Course sign but no Golf Course Road. Im guessing thats the road tho, were you fishing at Parkland? Birch Bay? Sunnyside? Thanks for helpin me out again!

Good morning Perchfisher.Actually what is referred to as Golf Course Road is a little deceiving. When you are travelling north and south on west side of Gull the turn off is midway between Parkland and Westlake roads. It is located on the crest of a hill right next to a nine hole golf course. If you are travelling south from Highway 53,you will see a yellow sign on you left advertising something like Precision Drilling, anyway the name starts with a P.The entrance to the lake is approximately 1 km from this turn off. When you get to the entrance there are 2 high white poles like goal posts at the boat launch.Hope these directions help, goodluck in fishing.
P.S. I heard last night that fishing is starting to pick up in Birch Bay,8 feet of water.

Ok thanks again. What exacly are yellow & red floaters? Never heard of them before. Did you try wetaskiwin specials at all?

Perchfisher;Wetaskawin Specials and Kastmasters do not work very well in Gull.Small wire worms #8 seem to be the ticket.Floaters are a hook tied with light material and no weight added. This way when you raise the hook and let it fall back down,it floats back down slowly resembling a slow moving larvae.
I make my own floaters.Use Mustad #8 3399 hook.Tie in a small red feather tail.Tie in yellow Acetate thread to form a small cigar shaped body.To seal the acetate thread apply Acetone liquid to the body with a Q-tip,this will also cut your thread from bobbin.Hope this info helps.    HotHook

Thanks, was out there Sunday and fishing was slow. Only had one white on. We were fishing the south side. A guy we talked to said it was reallly hot for whites the day before in that snow storm. Have you ever fished at Sunnyside or Parkland before? Any success on the whites?
