I was at the St. Paul Ice Fishing Show and was introduced to the best most powerful and easy to use drill system yet.

This is the Milwaukee Super Hawg, a specialized battery powered drill that was developed for plumbers to drill 6 inch holes through 4 inches of wood. It has the same kind of form factor as a Sawzall, long and slim.

https://www.cpomilwaukee.com/milwaukee-2709-20-m18-fuel-lithium-ion-super-hawg-1-2-in--right-angle-drill--bare-tool-/miln2709-20,default,pd.html#xsell=miln2709-20--1

The gearing and speed is ideal for drilling large hard holes and it is perfect for an auger.

In addition, there is a very easy screw-in side handle - no need at all for a clam plate or other plate.

Demonstration:

I spoke to a person whose brother is an engineer at Milwaukee and this tool beats all the drills and even the mud-mixer.

The thing about buying a regular capable drill is, you can use it around the house for other projects.. They come with different gear ratios, an actual chuck for any tools, including hole saws...

That's interesting, and it'll work, but that's all it can do.. Overkill IMO...

That thing is designed for one purpose, not versatile like a standard drill.. Same with the mudmixer, meant as a mixture..

How much does that thing cost anyway?

It won't be overkill on 10 inch holes.

I too think that it is specialized, but it is a very real amazing option.

The cost is around $300 for the tool only.

Not for everybody, but I wanted to keep everybody informed on what I found new at the show.

The best thing about a regular drill and Clam plate..

It's an electric auger just like an ion, trophy strike, icegator, but if something goes wrong, or you want a better motor, battery, or it just quits working.. It's can be fixed in under an hour year round. They are the only set up with replacement  motors and gearboxes, that are only going to get better.

Gotta agree with Scratcher. Tool only around $330. Weighs in at 13.5# tool only (ouch) but as said the problem is it's a one trick pony. Stick with the drill.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

It is very heavy, but for some who haul with ATV, snowmobile, Snowdog (like me), etc. the weight issue is not as big.  The nice thing is that it is compact and the side handle is fast to disconnect - very easy to pack and it will do amazing numbers of holes on a 12 AH battery. Might be the ticket for guys going out for multiple days who don't like gas augers (like me) and want a long-run electric.

I have one for running my rope rescue capstand winch. Sumb***h is HEAVY! Hadnt even occurred to me yet to try it on my auger. I may give it a go to see how it works. Im happy with my 2703 on my 6" and ive drilled a lot of holes with it. If i was running a 10" i would run the super hawg.

The Quick-Lok chuck shown in your post takes both the K-drill and the Eskimo Pistol. They both have the 3-flat shaft which slides right into the
Quik-Lok #42-66-0055. That Quik-Lok also fits right on the MudMixer.

Another Milwaukee tool the HoleHawg #2708-20 is much the same but smaller. At 6.9 pounds and $249 it fits right in our program. Last month HD added a 5AH battery for the ComeOn. Problem is the speed is 0-1100 RPM. About 2X what we want. Feathering the trigger to keep it at 600 would be difficult.

It's nice to have options, but if you were buying it just for an ice auger then I would think that for the price of it and an auger good enough to make it worth while you might as well just get an Ion or Strikemaster. JMHO
