i have an ice helix 7 and it still uses a lead acid battery. was wondering if anyone has tried a lithium ion battery in there electronics and if so, how did it affect your unit. good or bad?

I have not tried to lithium but I can fish for 8 hours on my lead acid core and still have over 50% left. I do make sure to turn the backlighting down to five

lithium batteries work just as well a LA battery. Just lighter and way more expensive. 12v is 12v.

Earlier this year I picked up a LiFePO4 battery and charger from https://energizedoutdoors.com/collections/lifepo4-battery
Put in my Vexilar. Just got an Ice Helix 7 a few weeks ago and swapped the batteries. Put the LiFePO4 battery in the Ice Helix.

Only used it once so far. 4 hrs run time in -20°F. Came home and recharged it in a short amount of time.

The lighter weight is also nice.

Yes 12v is 12v BUT
Different chemistry is DIFFERENT CHEMISTRY!!!
There are far more “pros” to a LiFe Po3 battery than the standard SLA. SLA’s have their place, just not in the cold running electronics. Can you do it yup. Sure can. You can also use e85 gas in your small engines. They just won’t run as long...

On a Helix 7?

I'd believe you for a 5, but even with screen brightness turned down to 3, the max battery time is about 8 hours total on a 7 in my experience so far. For example, yesterday with my Helix 7 and a new, fully charged sla battery, in above-freezing temps, I fished 7.5 hours and was down to 9% on the battery
